Black & Whites


12 oz package Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, divided
1½ cups all-purpose flour
1½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
6 Tablespoons butter/margarine, softened
1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
2 large eggs
½ cup powdered sugar


1. Microwave 1 cup chips in a medium, microwave safe bowl on high for 1 minute, stir. Morsels may retain some of their original shape. If necessary, microwave at additional 10-15 second intervals, stirring just until morsels are melted. Cool to room temperature.

2. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Set aside.

3. Cream granulated sugar, butter and vanilla in large mixer bowl. Add in melted chocolate.

4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

5. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in remaining morsels. Cover; refrigerate 3 hours or overnight (for fudgy texture). Preheat oven to 350°.

7. Shape dough into 1 ½ inch balls; roll in powdered sugar. Place on an ungreased baking sheet.

8. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the sides are set but the centers are still slightly soft. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove and cool completely on wire racks.


Yields: 3 dozen
